I suggest that it is unlikely that publishers will continue to produce printed encyclopaedias even given the possibility of digital-related funding opportunities. Not only because they become out of date and are (in print-on-paper versions) difficult and expensive to update but because of the difficulties of providing reasonable remuneration for contributors to ‘locked-down’ copyrighted tomes. Open Educational Resources could be much enhanced by a Creative Commons/Wikipedia approach.
