“It can be claimed with near certainty that this carving/presentoir set was given to Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg by Emperor Maximilian I to commemorate the arranging of the double marriage between Princess Anna, daughter of Wladislaw II of the Royal Jagiellonian House with one of Maximilian I’s grandsons, either Charles or Ferdinand, and at the same time the son of Wladislaw II and Princess Maria, a granddaughter of Maximilian I.”
